Michigan Biotechnology Institute

Founded in 1981, MBI is a leading not-for-profit biotechnology hub based in Lansing, Michigan. Our company is inspired by a mission to enhance the quality of life by collaboratively accelerating the commercialization of sustainable biobased technologies. With over 30 years in the industry, you could say we know a thing or two about derisking biobased technologies and designing sublime processes that scale. Over the past 6 years, MBI has accelerated 25 different early stage technologies from bench to pilot scale, shortening the time to commercialization. This is why customers repeatedly come back.

MBI applies this derisking approach to the development of bio stimulants, bio pesticides, specialty chemicals, and nutraceuticals from renewable, rather than fossil, materials. We engage with universities, corporations, and research institutions—and our long list of collaborators includes DuPont, Genomatica, Novozymes, NatureWorks, OPX, Verdezyne, and Bolt Threads.
