BPIA Statement on MAHA Commission’s “Making Our Children Healthy Again” Assessment

The Biological Products Industry Alliance (BPIA) welcomes the release of the “Making Our Children Healthy Again” assessment from the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) Commission. The report elevates a critical national conversation about the rise in childhood chronic diseases and how complex environmental, nutritional, and systemic factors may contribute to them.

BPIA strongly supports the Commission’s call for science-based solutions that prioritize both public health and environmental resilience. Biological products—including biopesticides, biostimulants, and biofertilizers—are an essential part of that solution.

Biological Products Are a Strategic Investment in Innovation, Health, and Resilience

Biological products are developed using cutting-edge science and inspired by naturally occurring systems. These tools are used by growers across diverse farming systems to:

  • Support healthier soils and stronger plants;
  • Improve resilience to plant pests and disease;
  • Expand sustainable productivity without sacrificing safety;
  • Help manage pest resistance and extend the effectiveness of older chemistries by introducing new modes of action;
  • Minimize environmental impact while helping meet rising food demand.

These technologies are increasingly valued for their favorable safety profiles, and in many cases, are exempt from food tolerance requirements due to their low risk to human health and the environment. When integrated into crop production systems, they support both short- and long-term goals in nutrition, food security, and environmental health.

America’s Agricultural Future Depends on Forward-Thinking Solutions

Meeting the demands of a growing population while improving public health requires a full toolbox of innovative products. Biological products are modern, scalable, reduced-risk solutions that support U.S. farmers, strengthen rural economies, and ensure future generations have access to safe and affordable food and fiber.

As policy recommendations are developed in the coming weeks, BPIA encourages the MAHA Commission to consider how biological products can play a role in meeting their goals. These technologies reflect the best in global innovation and play a key role in making American agriculture more resilient, sustainable, and aligned with national public health priorities.

We welcome continued collaboration with the Commission and policymakers to ensure that the future of agriculture is one that supports both human health and economic opportunity.

“Biological products are a vital part of the future of American agriculture. They represent the intersection of scientific innovation, sustainability, and public health. We believe their role will only grow as the nation looks for balanced, forward-looking solutions to protect our children and our food systems.”
